The ecclesiastical museum metropolis of Xanthi is located in the eastern ward of the Monastery of Panagia Archangeliotissa. The monastery is in the northeastern part of Xanthi. The museum collection was established in the early ’60s by the former metropolitan of Xanthi, Antonios.
The exhibits of the mueseum are collections of portable icons, silver utility tools, manuscripts and printed and divine service books, but also embroidered service cloths and wood carvings. The exhibits date back in the end of the Byzantine Era until the beginning of the 20th century and give an enlighting insight on the byzantine and post byzantine art in the greater area of Thrace.
